Mama Tyger’s Blessing Bags Program
This 2022 holiday season the Lake Travis Lions Club teamed up with Mama Tyger’s Blessing Bag Program to
provide bags of snacks, fruit, books, light jackets, tooth brushes, tooth paste and notes of
encouragement to 77 needy children living in the Hudson Bend trailer parks.
Mama Tyger’s Blessing Bag Program is a project started by Sheryl Tyger Kelly to honor her mother,
Delores Tyger. Delores Tyger, known affectionately as Mama Tyger, died in 2020 of Covid-19. Mrs.
Tyger was an advocate for children and an avid reader who enjoyed volunteering at school libraries as
well as other children’s programs.
For the last two years, Mama Tyger’s Blessing Bags has been focusing on the kids in Hudson Bend area
that live at or below the poverty line by providing bags filled with inspiring notes of encouragement and
much needed items. One high school student, Juliana Naegeler, has been an instrumental part of this
program by decorating and assembling each blessing bag.
The Lake Travis Lions Club is this December’s underwriter for Mama Tyger’s Blessing Bag Program.
Other Lake Travis businesses and organizations that assisted in filling the blessing bags include Lake
Travis Thrift Shop, Emmaus Catholic Church, Lakeway Church, Eaddy Dentistry and Serene Hills
Dentistry. “I just know my mother would have loved this program since it includes snacks for children
that have food insecurities, as well as books and clothing items,” stated Tyger Kelly. The Mama Tyger’s
Blessing Bag Program’s vision for 2023 is to add academic summer camp scholarships to help get
children out of the cycle of poverty. For more information regarding Mama Tyger’s Blessing Bags and
the scholarship program, please contact Sheryl Tyger Kelly at 512 997 8880.
